Goodevening! The Pine Looper Read: Jeremiah 17: 1 - 10 He shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river. In the summer of 1992, a fire blackened 4,500 acres of forest about 35 miles north of Atlantic city. One homeowner saw a fireball with 60 foot flames come roaring up across the street from his house, before veering away. The Associated Press quoted him as saying,"" I've worked 25 years of my life here. The thought of having it gone in 10 minutes makes you want to stay for the last possible minute."" The fire was difficult to contain because of dry conditions. The forest was dry despite rainfall, partly because of an insect called the pine looper which defoliates trees. THe dry-tree condition behind this New Jersey fire has a parallel in the history of Israel. Jeremiah said that his countrymen had become like dry shrubs in a desert rather than green trees by a river(17:6-8). Even more alarming, he said they had arou

Goodevening! From the ikigai book... To be honest, a request from most of my friends... The purity of Ghilbi There are those who say that the Shinto value of being connected with nature is vanishing. ONe of the harshest critics of this loss is another artist with a clearly defined ikigai . Hayao Miyazaki, the director of the animated films produced by Studio Ghilbi. In nearly all his films we see humans, technology, fantasy, and nature in a state of conflict-and, in the end, coming together. ONe of the most poignant metaphors in his film Spirited Away is an obese spirit covered in trash that represents the pollution of the rivers. In Miyazaki's films, forests have personalities, trees have feelings, and robots befriend birds. Considered a national treasure by the japanese government, Miyazaki is an artistcapable of becoming completely absorbed in his art. He uses a cell phone from the late 1990s, and he makes his entire team draw by hand. He"" directs"" his

Not only did he visit the Sony factories in the 1980s and adopt mamy of their methods when he founded Apple, he was also captivated by the simplicity and qualuty of jaoanese porcelain in Kyoto. it was not, however, an artisan from Kyoto who won Steve Job's devotion, but rather a Takamine from Toyama named Yukio Shakunaga, who used a technique called Etchi Seto-Yuki, known onky by a few. on a visit to Kyoto, Jobs heard of an exhibition of Shakunaga's work. Goodevening! from the book by THICH NHAT HANH... ""Many of us suffer because our communication with other people is difficult. At work, for example, we often feel we have tried everything and there is no way to reach our colleagues. This is often true in families as well. We feel our parents, our siblings, or our children are too stuck in their ways. We think no real communication is possible. Yet there are many ways to reconcile and to create openings for more compassionate communication. Communicating when you're angry One reason we have trouble communicating with others is that we often try to communicate when we are angry. WE suffer, and we don't want to be alone with all that suffering. WE believe that we are angry because of something others did, and we want them to know it. Anger has urgency to it. We want to let others know right away what the problem with them is. But, when we're angry, we aren't lucid. Acting while angry can lead to a lot of suf

Goodevening! The catholic community in India by Nirad C. Chaudhuri I became aware of the true character of Christianity as a very young student when reading Roman Hisory, and I am amazed to find how ignorant and mistaken even highly educated are about it. I ask them:''What is the message of Christianity?''At once they reply '' To love their neighbour''. They forget that this particular moral precept comes from Judaism and was only reiterated by Christianity. But they also forget the far more important fact that primarily, Christianity is not a moral code, but a view of man's relationship with God. The Christian kerygma we Hindus completely brush aside. I have never forgotten that this is the main thing about Christianity, and the more I have considered it the more important has it seemed to me, irrespective of any belief I have or do not have in the established religions. Goodevening! My nephew got me four fighter fishes for my little aquarium. The little boy who came with him, watched these litttle fishes for a while. Earlier the question among us at home was"' what do you do when you are out of mood?"" Cannot call everything mood swings since eveery pregnant woman has that too. These two boys got some pebbles and I picked from the garden what I thought was an air purifier plant and kept it inside the little acquarium. Watching this boy watch the little 3.5 inch bottlenecked jar and the movement of fishes inside the jar reminded me of zen meditation. For me, it is relaxing and calming. My mother said when she is out of mood she likes to watch family episodes of tv serials either in her mobile or tv. My cosister who came for lunch said, as I knew already, she likes to hear songs in the play list prepared by her husband, who is abroad, in her mobile, when she is out of mood. Goodevening! Yesterday I was inspired to see a gardening hack in social media ...We can take a globule of garlic and immerse it with roots down in a small glass jar of water. Once the roots come down and the green sprouts come up , we can separate each garlic and plant it in the soil 6 inches apart. It can be harvested at its various stages until it is fully done to cure. Even the peels of onion and garlic and maybe a small green chilli, if we boil it in water and filter can act as good plant pesticide. From the book on ayurveda... Guidelines for spring... Goodevening! From a book on ""Our Lady of Fatima"" by William Thomas Walsh... It was in the convent of the Dorothean Sisters at Vilar, near Porto, that I had the privilege of conversing with Sister Maria das Dores on the afternoon of Monday, July 15, 1946. She seemed uncomfortable at first, and probably was, for she dislikes such interviews intensely, and submits to them only when ordered to do so. She wrung her hands nervously. Her pale brown eyes looked rather guarded and unfriendly. There was not much conviction in the high and timorous voice. .....when the Angel of Peace gave you Holu Communion at Cabeco, did it seem to you like a dream or vision or was it like the reality of receiving Holy Communion in a Church?"'.... She hesitated for the right word. Goodevening! from the book,""She is my mother"... We fly to your patronage... I recalled the long history of this prayer. As Francis had explained, it is probably the oldest Christian prayer to Mary. It has been prayed for a long time in the rites of both the Western and the Eastern Church, although there are always alight variations in the translation. It is part of the prayers recited by many Christians, and the life of many religious communities and catholic families, and can be found in the evening prayer of the Church ( Breviary ) among the Marian antiphons. We fly to your patronage, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen. Goodevening! from the book, "" Christianity in India: Its true face"" It is only gradually that the Tribal comes to see that Christianity's greatest gift is Christ, the one who brings God's love within human reach. To conclude the above observations, the exterior step by which one joins Christianity may be abrupt or even traumatic, but it is always felt as a liberation and a home coming. Christianity is fully in line with the traditional religion. This ought not really to surprise even those who have scant knowledge of either creed. Christianity, after all, is not an invention of the Modern West. It was born in a tribal region of Western asia, whose religion, is recorded in the old testament, was not unlike that of the Mundas. It developed many of its rituals among the farming population of Europe- then still largely tribal. The tribals of India come to their own in Christianity. The question still remains whether it helps the Tribal to take his rightful

goodevening! 2fom national catholic broadcasting council, Canada... Msgr. Sam Bianco The word "abide" is a very old English word. In the Gospels, the word is used at least 14 times. And over the whole of Scriptures, it's present probably 100 times. And the word means, in its old form, "stay with", "remain", "live with", "abide with me", "stay with me", "be faithful". And we understand what that kind of spirit is in a human development. If we have a good human spirit, many of the things that Jesus is talking about are present to us. We become advocates for those who suffer. To be an advocate is to be a lawyer, to speak out on behalf of people who suffer unjustly, to take the side of sometimes what are called the losers, and to say, "No, we're not going to abandon them." I need advocates, I need people to defend me, and other people need them, as well. So, a good human spirit is one that's c
