Goodmorning!
An inspiring story from the 1986 Don Bosco's Madonna by Rev. Peter Gatti, SDB.

GOLDEN LOCKS
It talks about a story of a village where the soil was difficult to cultivate, threatened by occasional floods by the turbulent river, even so , every hearth , by evening would vie with one another in the pious recitation of their prayers. The holy rosary would be the grand finale of their recitation to God. There lived a young couple, the husband had taken to tilling the hard soil. He had taken the land on lease and sadly the landlord was interested in only collecting the dues. His wife, besides doing their house-work and attending to the poultry, was eager to give him a helping hand.

They loved each other intensely. Thay had no craving for the riches. They were quite satisfied with their honourable poverty.Bu a cross was weighing heavily on their young minds: they had no children. Not that they did not want them; their daily, fervent prayer testified to their eagerness. They would have liked so many of them , so as to populate their arid region with hearths all in love with God.

One day, they made a vow, After their recitation of the mother-of-pearl Rosary, a gift of their Parish Priest on their wedding day, they made a petition:"Virgin Mary," they said, "If You gift us with a child, we will consecrate it to You." A son was born_ Our blessed MOther ever listens to humble prayers! The child was an incarnate beauty. His blue eyes matched his locks: they were golden in colour and looked like liquid gold. He was named Golden Locks. He grew ins age and grace. At three, he would toddle in the fields after his parents, glad to bask in their glow of their protection.

But treacherous envy began maligning their lot and started plotting to rob them of their happy living-the sky became overcast. An unprecedented deluge flooded their whole region. Surely, they opined that the flood will not reach our roof. Let us all three climb it.
THe husband told his wife, "" Climb my shoulders along with our child,"" this way you two at least will save yourselves.""My son, said the mother, stay over my shoulders, and our human ladder will at least save you.""

Cruel envey thought it was having its last laugh at the complete immersion of every house and tree, when the unexpected happened:-THe Archangel Gabriel was sent by Our Lady to inspect the whole zone. The heavenly messenger hastened back to report the terrifying devastation:"" No living creature is in sight,"" he said:"" now and again though, I see golden locks surfacing the flood."""

Ah, She sais,"" it is the child the young couple have consecrated to me. Fly back and bring him to safety.""

THe Archangel flew faster than thought. He stretched out his hand and began pulling Golden locks by his tuft.""Hpw heavy you are , my child,"" along with him his mother appeared clasped to his feet. But he even smiled more contentedly when fastened to his wife's feet, her husband emerged from the engulfing waves!

As fast as lightning, the Archangel made a perfect landing on a distant hillock, away from the submerged Zone. Then they all looked at a mysterious light emanating from the father's big pockect. What was it? The mystery was solved when they saw the Rosary his Parish Priest had given him on his wedding day: it was all a spotlight brighter than the sun. Thankfully, they fell to the Marian prayer: Hail Mary....Holy Mary...!
